The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith
4.0

He really did seem obsessed with gender identity though, didn't he? I kept expecting an Austin Power-esque moment at the reveal where someone says, "That's not a woman, it's a man, man!" It didn't come to pass though.

Rowling continues to display masterful writer's craft in the second book of the Cormoran Strike series. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Cuckoo's Calling but Silkworm does a much better job at keeping you guessing. At some point in the story I thought for certain that each and every character was potentially guilty, even the mentally challenged daughter with her cheeky-monkey. And at the moment of the big reveal it all clicks into place and you can see that all of the clues were there from the beginning. In Cuckoo's Calling I knew who the killer was and why as soon as the talked turned to finding Lula's birth father. In this one the only thing I was sure of was that Quine had in part planned some of the events to try and get more attention.

If only Strike had collected that dog puke way back in chapter 4 he could had the whole thing solved much more quickly.

I started this with a 3 star rating but decided it was a little harsh. There were a lot of nice twists, solid character development, and a really good plan. I can't help but think that this series will be more about Robin eventually. Only time will tell.
