deebauched 's review for:
Prosper's Demon
by K.J. Parker
a weirdly unique, or uniquely weird read.
the satiric tone of the main narrator was great fun to get into.
i enjoyed the idea behind demons and their collaborative work with humans and how that could possibly mean the coming of the renaissance and progress in many ways. it never gets a 100% confirmed what the grand scale plan was, but i like my own interpretation where it was demons bringing along progress in the arts, philosophy and sciences, which eventually would mean the death of the religious orders that are constantly after them. the age of education and scientific approach which would bring along the dawn of superstition and exorcism.
also, my favourite line of the whole gig: "I was prepared for a fat man in the same way that someone who has grown up on the shores of a five-acre inland lake is prepared for the sea."
i laughed for a solid 5 minutes.
3 stars.
