Book absolutely just didn’t work for me. The pacing felt off. As the reader what happened to Poppy during those two years away from Rune seemed pretty obvious when we see her interactions with others. Later when she tells Rune what happened it was VERY early on in the story. Now this pacing has purpose (gives us time with the characters, let’s the characters experience adventures together, etc.) But for me it made a majority of the book boring. Since Rune and Poppy have been together a majority of their life a lot of their relationship is “pure” in a way that makes their interactions cheesy. And I love sweet gestures/sayings in my romance but these phrases show up what feels like every single page. The constant of them made me more annoyed than anything. Then the ending to me felt wildly inappropriate.
I don’t like that Rune wasn’t able to find romantic love after Poppy and was essentially alone for a decade after she died, until he himself died. Ugh. Really wanted to love this one and wanted to cry but I never got more than misty.
