At least I know the shithole Texas town wasn’t random. That was really bothering me lol.
I’m thinking I shouldn’t have doubted Rachel Caine. I’ve only read her Great Library series (which immediately shot to the top of my all time favorites) but I already held her in such high esteem I wondered how these books came about. But every book seems to build on what the previous ones started. And while they’ll probably never be in my top 200 or anything, I’m diggin them. Also, maybe I just don’t love vampires lol.
Claire continues to do Claire things - running off on her own, putting herself in danger, etc.
Shane is still a dick, but decreasing in small amounts.
Michael is really getting the hang of the vamp life.
Eve felt more filler than anything in this one.
Monica is trying to force her way into Claire’s life, and that surely can’t mean anything good.
Crazy Jason pops in and out a few times, stabs someone, no big deal.
Amelie’s got Claire working with a very old vamp who is sick, and it’s quite dangerous, but if they don’t find the answers it appears all the vampires are going to have Big Problems.
Oliver’s angle seems to be a bit more clear in this one, and man I really don’t like him. Power hungry mansplaining vampire - as if regular mansplaining mortals aren’t bad enough.
And we end with a definitely not pleasant surprise visit…
