I ate a lot of apples while I was reading Black River Orchard. I'm pretty sure none of them were as tasty as the descriptions of the apples in the book.
I listened to the audiobook, and the cast of narrators brought the story to life so well. It's a long book, but there's not a dull moment.
I loved the small town atmosphere, and the claustrophobia that creeps in as people start to become changed by the apples. The horror escalates as the book progresses, and there's some cool body horror and some nasty imagery.
The atmosphere and setting reminded me of early Dean Koontz, which I definitely mean as a compliment. There's an oppressive air, and the sense that the apple-eaters are closing in on our protagonists.
Super creepy, and really enjoyable.
