I got an ARC of this book.

This book is a it baffling. What do I really think about it? I still don’t know. I finished it yesterday and decided I had to sleep on it.

The romance was very much a romance novel’s idea of a romance. Instant passion, everything is based on sex, and they barely know each other before they are not using condoms. Yet, this didn’t really bother me. The addition of other species made my normal objects leave. It was normal for one of their species and maybe STDs can’t be transmitted between species? Dargon’s penis has literally evolved in a way that makes it self lubricating, which also takes away my need to see lube on page, which I have to admit is pretty clever.

The biggest issue I had with the book was also sorta resolved in the book. The MC is intersex, but in this very sci-fi way. He has two fully functioning sets of organs, which is not accurate. He also has part of his organs (forcibly) removed and his eggs are released in his ejaculations once a month? That is just getting a bit weird. Yet this is actually a whole big plot point. The forcibly removed portion is pretty accurate for modern day intersex treatment my medical professionals. Later in the book, it is revealed that humans have a third sex (intersex) and that they have almost created their own race. They are vitally important to the safety of this part of the space world. So like, intersex people are super important and given respect. Yet they are this sci-fi version of what intersex could be. Its like a trans person being able to attach a penis and then remove it at will with full sensation (read that once) or a trans woman getting pregnant (also read that). Like I am torn on this intersex rep. The community is not shown to be less than or anything else, but then there are the issues of what is physically possible. So 50/50?

This is clearly a first book. It sets up this huge plot of intergalactic war and a deep history of danger. The world building is super intense. There is so much that has been created. There are so many answers I still need. It is hinted that there will be answers in book two, which is so annoying, because now I need to read book two. If book two was even half as engaging as this one, I will need to read book three. It is a vicious circle of alien sex that I have been trapped in.

Why am I so fascinated by alien sex? Why am I disappointed that I didn’t get to see the bodyguard be spit roasted by the ursine? I’m sorry, but I am starting to understand this alien sex thing, maybe? Please join my confusion. I need someone to rant about things and over analyze the kinks that these species have build into their normal mating behaviors. There are so many kinks, marking and claiming seem to be high on the list. Group sex is also up there. Fluids and fluid bonding. I just can’t keep up.
