This sci-fi novel has a great premise, a cinematic feel, and lots of action! When enormous and ancient metal body parts show up all over the world, a small team of scientists and pilots are tasked with finding out more, eventually putting together a robot that’s more than two stories tall. As they stumble their way through their research, with occasional revelations and disasters, one thing becomes abundantly clear: this huge robot was not made by human hands. The story is told through mission logs and journal entries and interviews with a shadowy nameless character, and I found it all pretty thrilling and imaginative. While the format resulted in some distance between the reader and the emotional reality of the characters, I still felt attached to them and invested in their successes. I can’t wait to continue the series after that final twist!
