Alex Stern is deeply disturbed, traumatized and yet somehow relatable. She is flawed, but lovable.
The story builds a rich world of mystery, prestige and magic. Fantasy novels are usually hit or miss with me - I don’t like anything too outlandish - but Ninth House balances between the iconic reality of Ivy League Yale and a new world of magic & darkness - both worlds which are beyond so many of our reaches.
I loved the story, but I gave it a 4.5 because the beginning was a bit slow and complicated. There is a lot to learn about Bardugo’s world but once you grasp the concept, it feels as real as ever.
