Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills
5.0

Completely and utterly delighted by FOOLISH HEARTS. I was smiling like a fool today because of how great it was and how much I wasn't annoyed I didn't get to sleep before midnight two nights in a row because I was so attached to this story.

Because of a group project gone wrong, Claudia finds herself involved in the big theater production, combining the boys school and the girls. She isn't someone who does a lot out of her comfort zone. She has Zoe, a best friend she loves to hang out with. She's dedicated to playing her MMO, Battle Quest, with her brother. She mostly keeps to herself. But getting involved in the school play leads to many surprising friendships and hangouts and new opportunities she didn't expect to be a part of in her senior year of high school. I love how she was apprehensive about it and I love how she really did try to put herself out there in new ways. Gideon, the class clown/guy everyone loves in class, catches her eye and brought me back to my own freshman year experiences. I liked his character a lot but I could understand why she was wary of her feelings for him -- after a crappy breakup with a guy a few years ago and the fact that everyone flocks to Gideon, I would have been the same way. But they keep getting put together in one way or another.

The real winner of a relationship for me, though, was Iris and Claudia. Iris is not having a friendship with Claud at all. She's reeling from a bad breakup, she isn't exactly the warm and cuddly type, and as the story went on and we learned more about her, I felt like this friendship was so earned and so special. You don't go into your senior year of anything thinking you are going to make this kind of friend but it was really wonderful and funny and just another unexpected pleasure of this book.

I've enjoyed every single one of Emma's books, and I cannot wait until the next time she introduces us to some new characters. I was sad for this one to be over, and I will surely be reading it again in the future.
