The Iron Knight
by Julie Kagawa
*Received ARC via NetGalley. Book to be released on October 25, 2011*
From Goodreads: My name—my True Name—is Ashallayn'darkmyr Tallyn.
I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court. And I am dead to her.
My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl…
The final installment in the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa is no disappointment. I wondered about it, the story told from Ash’s perspective, but found that I rather enjoyed it. I’ve been annoyed at books done like this in the past, because they just seem stale to me. This one didn’t, probably because it’s not retelling the story from his point of view, it’s continuing the story that we left. I like that approach.
I felt like we got to know more of the real Ash here. We see more into his character and get more insight into who he is and why he does what he does. I liked him a whole lot more here than I did in the previous three books.
I also liked Puck a lot more. Sometimes he bugged me in the other books, but here he made sense. It’s like he’s the perfect foil for Ash, and not just because of the Meghan connection. Everything that he isn’t, Ash is, and everything that Ash isn’t, Puck is. I like that they both grew into themselves and gained strength through the things they faced.
I liked the continuation of the story and the journey that Ash and Puck went on. I liked the action and I liked the resolution. I just liked the whole thing a lot. (Actually, I’ve really enjoyed the entire series and you should probably read them all.)
I’m giving The Iron Knight a ‘Pick Me’ rating for being an awesome conclusion to an awesome series!
