Overall I enjoyed this book. The thing I liked most about this book was the cast of characters. Joe Abercrombie does a great job of establishing each of the characters, their flaws, goals, and individual personalities. I felt though that this book was entirely for the purpose of setting up the plot of the trilogy, however. It felt as if it did not have its own story, rather was just following how each of the characters would come together for the adventures in the following books. I do not feel the need to read the rest of the series.
Graphic: Ableism, Slavery, Torture, Violence, Blood
Moderate: Cannibalism, War
Minor: Sexual assault
