Enjoyed this book a lot as a quick, easy read. The main characters are fun and funny, the author does a good job of rolling out info throughout the course of the book which keeps you wanting to find out more. An actual strong FMC in her own right which we love who actually has relatable flaws (all her panic attacks on the sea ). Also love a romantasy with very limited misunderstanding trope. Aren is a fuckin idiot tho ngl like I get that he wanted to use his marriage to create real change in his kingdom in how they see Lara's people but bruh at least limit her ability to gather intelligence like a smidge it's like he wasn't even trying, not to victim blame but that is dummy behavior as a king .
I wish Vitex got a bigger roleand I really hope he's okay ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ .
Not a very spicy book overall, slow-ish burn with 1.25 open-door scenes. Also felt a bit annoyed once they got together that it was immediately a like OMG i would die and/or murder for this man he's my everything!!!!! Felt very trite.
Spoilers for the end:
Ballsy of the author to follow through on the Maridrinian invasion, props for that because idk how we're gonna get out of this situation. I rolled my eyes a lil over Marylyn's appearance at the end, felt like she was a hasty plot device to allow Lara to take some actions that might in the future shore up her argument to Aren that she really does love him & his kingdom. I did gusp when she actually broke her sister's neck tho, cutthroat. Wondering if the next one will actually be a romance or nah because I really don't see how Lara and Aren come back from this. Even if she rescues him (which honestly, super into the queen rescues her husband situation) she destroyed his kingdom and got his people hella murdered, not cool girl. But he's kind of a simp for her so who knows.
