Island Affair
by Priscilla Oliveras
This is a cute little fake dating, insta-love, only-one-bed romcom with lots of Spanish tossed in. Don’t worry if you don’t know the language—context is always given, and a translation is usually slipped in within a few lines.
There’s a celebratory family vacation in Florida, and the goal is to avoid upsetting their mother, recovering from breast cancer treatments. Our MC is stood up for the trip by her boyfriend. In an effort not to upset her mom, she asks Luis to be her fake boyfriend.
The story is a bit repetitive. It also gets pretty steamy. The leading lady has an eating disorder, and our main man is a firefighter/EMT, so those are both interesting angles.
CW: cancer, infidelity, loss of a partner, self-doubt
