wheatvulture 's review for:
Maurice
by E.M. Forster
(goodreads really should have half star ratings bc this was more of a 2.5/5 than anything)
idk. i wanted to like it but i guess i just couldn't really identify with any of the characters enough to ~get~ the book. the women are one-dimensional, the men are horrible, etc.
that being said i did like the whole introspective nature of the book; how sexuality is treated as the root of true loneliness when everyone out there thinks you have a disease and are immoral. (this was the 1910s after all)
but for a book that centres a lot of its story on relationships idk i just didn't feel as though there was enough substance. maurice and alec ending up together felt more like forster trying to force maurice to have at least a single working relationship but overall i felt as though they didn't have any...chemistry. or whatever.
but maybe forster was just commenting on the absurdity of love/human nature/whatever man
