The Darkest Temptation

“Ya lyublyu tebya. Tak sil’no chto ne mogu dumat’ kogda ty daleko ot menya.” I love you. So much I can’t think when you’re away from me.”
It has been a while since I’ve read a dark romance book, and I knew before starting that it wouldn’t hit the same as it used to since I don’t get that attracted to the genre anymore, but I still said I’d give it a try and read the third book of the Made Men series, and it was disappointing. In a few words, it felt like a better version of a Wattpad mafia story trying to fit into the standards of modern literature. Before, I used to love this genre; it felt intriguing and fun, but now it’s awkward and cringe. There are so many problematic issues with this book, but not going to lie, it was still a bit fun to read; Ronan was a funny guy. His witty remarks and unexpected charm added a layer of entertainment that kept me flipping the pages. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that the story itself was drowning in clichés, leaving me torn between enjoyment and frustration.
I don’t even know where to start! A good girl gets helped by a mysterious man and INSTANTLY trusts him. Everything felt rushed, and we didn’t even get to know Mila’s whereabouts as well as her university and friends that were brought throughout the book. She was naive, and it pissed me off so badly, especially for “falling in love with the devil” in lingo. I cannot tell you how much I’ve heard of the word D’javol in the book and the phrase “lowering to his haunches.” I GET IT! So repetitive, and at some point it got me laughing because I couldn’t believe the author couldn’t change the words and phrases to not sound the same.
RONAN, the devil/bad boy/mobster/enemy/boss, was literally all in one, frankly speaking. The enigmatic man we know nothing about and who is called the devil by everyone was pretty fun to read about, though I couldn’t stand his anger issues and the way he called Mila PET a thousand times. I hate the word pet now. He seriously has some issues, RED FLAG. I probably wouldn’t want him in real life, but in the book, he sounded hot, all that Russian, so smartass.
I loved the relationship between Mila and Albert and somehow wished she would be this open with Ronan too, but that didn’t happen. It would’ve been nice at the end of the book if Albert had met Emma, Mila’s friend, the one who was mentioned at the beginning of the book.
To be straightforward on this, I don't understand why the book was so long for a narrative centered on Mila's life as a hostage and her falling in love with a Bratva ruler. That was it, and there were far too many chapters in which nothing happened. Some parts made me cringe, such as when Ronan told Mila to shave her privates because he didn't like it, but she was a captive with NOTHING on her and no luggage. Are you honestly kidding me? Or when she was tied to the bed and Christian's baby girl entered with Gianna, a little girl witnessing a naked woman bound to a bed but said nothing? That's not normal, just insane.
I'm not sure why I expected so much from this book, but other than being an easy read to boost my mood, I didn't connect with it; it made me realize the type of man I DON'T want to interact with. This is just my opinion, and it definitely depends on everyone's thoughts on the book, but I wasn't pleased and would most likely not suggest it to my friends NUH UH. If you're in the mood for the ol' mafia Wattpad book style, with a good girl/bad boy, captive/captor, little storyline, and a lot of smut, go for it!! It was just a no for me this time.
