This book was an absolute breath of fresh air, I haven’t read anything else like it. This gender-bent reimagining of a Chinese martial arts story is chock full of intimidating women, casual queerness, and a nuanced exploration of morality. What does loyalty mean to you, and how far would you go to protect those you’re loyal to? The moral lessons of this book reminded me of the eternal words of John Lewis: “Get in good trouble”.
