I really wanted to love this novel, but felt that it was a let down in some respects. Overall, I enjoyed the conclusion of the trilogy, but I found a large portion of the middle of the novel to be filler. The secondary characters were given more time in that section, which I liked, but it just felt like a lot of it could have been skipped. The ending was decent and some of what happens was surprising, which added to my enjoyment. I wish the ending had been fleshed out more. I did feel that the Darkling was given a lot of development in the first novel, but in the second and third novels, his character was pushed to the background—which was a shame because I think there was a lot of potential with his character. Nikolai is still my favorite and I’m so happy that there are more novels focused on him. I did really like this series and look forward to reading the other novels set in the Grishaverse.
