Insane way to end the first arc of the series! Say what you will about the Erins Hunter but my god can they write a battle scene. Incredibly gratifying to see Firestar finally come into his own after watching his struggle and fumble for the first 5 books.
A shocking amount of social commentary that was lost on me as a child!Firestar’s horror at the thought of a clan that doesn’t care for its sick or elderly or disabled? Tigerstar’s racist tirade against half clan cats? Make Shadowclan great again? Cat imperialism? Religious self-determination?
Specific scene shout outs:when Firestar gets his 9 lives, when Tigerstar gets disemboweled and loses all 9 of his lives, and when Whitestorm dies and names Greystripe his successor were all highlights!
