Ugly Girls by Lindsay Hunter

3.0

I desperately wanted to love this book but it fell flat for me. I didn't feel any connection between Perry and Baby Girl, except maybe that the only reason they were friends ("frenemies", really) was because no one else liked them. Or not, because it seems like they've been friends a long time, but they never refer to past events or reminisce. And even though the Jamey situation was described as the core content of the book, it felt like an afterthought to push the content forward. The real story seemed to be about Perry and BG's constant struggle, their hatred of each other that never even came full circle to love in any way, which was disappointing. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if the cover hadn't described some insane cat-and-mouse game that never came to fruition. That being said, I finished this book in one sitting (about five hours) and the changes in narrator kept it fresh. I just wish the Jamey parts had been scrapped or given more time. 3.5 stars rounded down to 3.
