The Comeback Summer by Ali Brady

emotional hopeful inspiring medium-paced

Bullet Point Review:
  • I loved the theme of sisterly bonds and relationships most of all. It made this story much more than a romance and had me reflecting on my relationship with my sister.
  • It's not a new story or unpredictable, but it hits all the right heartstrings. Stories like this rarely wow me with an original story, but I don't go into it looking for one. I wanted a story that would make me happy, and it did just that.
  • I also enjoyed the authenticity of the sister drama. If you have a sister, there will be drama, laughter, tears, and even anger, but behind it is a love that will last a lifetime.
  • The romances were lovely, but they were only secondary to the sisters' story to me.
  • The story is told from dual points of view, with each sister getting their chance to tell their story. This worked very well for my understanding of the dynamics.
  • The sisters, Hannah and Libby, are flawed, and through the story and the challenges they faced through the "Crush Your Comfort Zone" twelve-week program, their character development was just monumental. I loved watching them bloom in awareness as women and sisters.
  • The pacing was more of a happy medium but consistent, so there were never any moments when I felt like the story dragged on.
  • The story is set in Chicago and is so well-utilized that it feels as important as any character.
