Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

4.0

I grew up watching the PBS version of this book every chance that I could get, so I was nervous about reading the book again after so many years. I wish I had read it sooner. Anne's enthusiastic perspective on life widens my own "scope for the imagination," and I find myself living life with more awareness after reading it. I can relate to Anne's emotional ups and downs throughout her journey, and I just wish that this book didn't have to come to an end. My one complaint stems from the first chapter, where Marilla makes a couple of racist comments about children who are not originally from Canada. I feel the author could have easily left out those couple of sentences, as they are not at all in keeping with the overall positive, encouraging, Christian themes in the book.
