Fever Fae by Meg Xuemei X

5.0

WOW! This story is the perfect example of why Ms. Xuemei X is one of my favorite authors. The story grips your heartstrings, gets your heart pumping, and brings a smile to your face in the first few chapters. That was all it took to keep me glued to the pages.

Evie isn't a young girl with no experience in the world. Her life has been mostly happy, but she isn't naive or innocent. She comes across much older than the college girl she is. She is mature, responsible, protective, and tough. She isn't thrilled with the situation she finds herself in, but she's going to do everything she can to keep it together. I love this about her. I love that she doesn't look at the not so pleasant parts of her past with anger or self-pity. I love that she isn't afraid to be the disciplinarian while still trying to be nurturing. She comes across exactly as I would imagine someone in her situation would be.

Then you have her guys, or the guys who will be her's when the story progresses to that. This one is slower to get to the spicy parts, and I love that, too. Evie has other things to think about and she isn't really interested in having a relationship. A night of fun, maybe, but she has crap to do. The interactions between the guys, and them with Evie, run the gamut from humorous to steamy, but she is the one in charge. She doesn't back down, and part of that may be because she has no idea who she's messing with.

That brings me to another fun thing about this one. The story is set in the regular, non-magical world. Evie finds out pretty early on that there is something not normal going on around her, but she still looks at everything from a purely human perspective.

Everything about this new series is amazing. The world and character building are rich in detail, the plot has action, humor, tenderness, and some sexy times, and there are still enough secrets to keep you guessing about what's going to happen next.
