Vengeful by V.E. Schwab

4.0

3.5 rounded up

ive grown very attached to the vicious cast (victor, sydney, mitch, dol) which prevents me from rating this book any lower than 3 stars. vengeful started out very ambitious with the addition of these new characters and multiple plotlines. in the beginning, i couldn’t grasp how they would all merge into one but schwab really made it work. eli’s background made this book so much more interesting and i hate that ive grown quite a bit attached to him too. i still really loved the structure of this book but i started to notice the repetitive format of her character introductions.

my biggest issue with this book were the new characters overall. marcella, june, and jonathan all fell flat for me. jonathan was merely there for convenience and june’s motivations were so muddled i cannot see why she was so quickly attached to sydney. marcella is Girlboss i guess and the most developed out of the new trio but i didn’t like her very much. i would have much preferred more focus on the original characters from the previous book.

if i hadn’t known about the third book in this series, i would say that this was a very underwhelming finale. i still thought this was cleverly written and i’m thrilled for villains book 3. i wish i had liked this just as much as vicious.
