A Ghost In The Throat by Doireann Ní Ghríofa

emotional hopeful reflective sad slow-paced

4.5

What is a female text? The burning of letters, the scars and stretch marks that come from pregnancy, the stories we tell. Ghríofa explores her own text, her story as a mother and homemaker, alongside the story of legendary Irish poet who wrote an epic poem at the death of her husband. Ghríofa tracks this poet's life, and finds much of it missing, fills in the gaps with fantasy at times, and at others by tracking down the men of the family, whose stories are more well-documented. Overall, a lovely, lyrical look at domesticity and the way that women's lives endure and are remembered.
