Lost Children Archive by Valeria Luiselli
4.0

Some of the meta things and references in this went over my head a bit but at its core is the portrayal of a family driving across America to document children who are lost crossing the US border, and the resting place of the last free Apaches.

The way the parent-child and sibling relationships are written are staggeringly well done, Luiselli has a real talent for getting in the minds of children and she really doesn't patronise them in any way here, their minds are given as much credit as the adults.

All the clever things she does with the structure of the book and stories weaving together are almost unimportant compared to the central relationships.
