All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover

4.0

TW// this book discusses the hardships of infertility This books was raw, honest, frustrating, bittersweet, but most importantly real. I love that Colleen always chooses to tackle difficult and sometimes taboo topics for her books. She doesn’t always get it right but when she does my goodness. She creates something that is so beautiful and will last long after you close the book. All your perfects is simple. A story of love, trust, communication and what happens with a relationship doesn’t have that, what happens when a marriage needs more the happy memories to survive. Love is so much more than kisses and hugs and sex and Colleen never fails to show that. All your perfects is a story of love, of hurt, isolation, loneliness, and most importantly growth.

What I love most about Colleens books is that fact that you don’t have to love the character or agree with their choices to enjoy the story. These books are so much more than the plot, they acknowledge the fact that we’re human and sometimes we do stupid shit. Sometimes we do really shitty things to the people we love the most. Sometimes we hurt the people we are supposed to protect. Does that make us a bad person? No, at least I don’t think so.

All your perfects is not a love story. It’s a story of overcoming grief and finding the happiness you once had. It’s a story of perseverance, of honoring a commitment even when it’s hard. It’s story about love and the category 5 hurricanes that come with it. Sometimes love isn’t enough to weather the storm and the only people who can decide if they’re strong enough of to pull through are those facing the storm head on. For so long I though love was enough, and that it could conquer anything, defeat any and all challenges. However Colleen has showed me that that is not always the case. Love is a product of a solid foundation and it is not always easy. But if you’re willing to work and be honest then it will always find a way.
