When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker
4.0
While I found the overall plot intriguing, the execution felt a bit uneven. The first half captivated me, but my interest waned somewhat in the middle. The pacing felt inconsistent, with some sections, like the card game, bogged down in excessive detail, while other crucial world-building elements remained unclear even after finishing the book.
The heavy focus on romance, while not necessarily a negative, felt a bit overpowering at times, overshadowing the fantastical elements I was eager to explore. The world and magic system are incredibly unique, but the world-building itself felt a bit disjointed, with random information dumps that didn't always provide a clear picture.
The ending left me with a multitude of questions, which is great for future installments, but I couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated by the lack of resolution in this book.
Despite these minor criticisms, it has a lot of potential. The unique world and compelling characters make it a promising start to a potentially fantastic series.
