Crank
by Ellen Hopkins
4.5 stars
Kristina is a good student and doesn’t get in trouble. She goes off to spend some (court appointed) time with her who she doesn’t know well. While she’s there, she meets Adam and he convinces her to try drugs. She returns home a changed person.
Written in verse for a YA audience, CRANK is based on Hopkins’ daughter’s addiction to meth. It provides a first hand look at the way addiction affects users and their families. I’m sure many families will relate to this book and take comfort in knowing they’re not alone.
