- This anthology was uhh pretty disappointing?? Out of all the stories, only two stories were above 3 stars for me.
- Blake’s and Yangs stories were pretty good highlights to me because of Blake’s creative world building and Yangs clever use of writing tropes (they were also the only queer ones in the book that I can remember lol). But the other stories just felt like scary stories you tell in the dark that just takes place in a college setting?? It even felt juvenile at times.
- My problem with most of these stories are that they take the Dark Academia concept in such face value that there is no nuance to these stories other than having the aesthetic. It gets to the point in which I don’t really know what constitutes as Dark Academia at this point. Is it the college setting? The white dominated studying field (English, Latin, western philosophy and history etc)? Is it the critique of elitism?? What the fuck is DA about??
