I’ll be honest. I only read this book because Kobo offered me extra points to read a book from a selection within a certain period of time and this was the shortest one.
I love the first 3rd of the book. I thought getting a tour was a brilliant way to introduce the reader into this assembly line world. i also loved how Huxley cut between different conversations quickly in the first couple of chapters.
I started to lose interest once the main characters went to the reservation. I felt that the meeting of John and Linda and taking them back to “civilized society” was very abrupt and I didn’t feel any build up or tension of these characters going to a new world. I honestly didn’t love John as a character but I realize he himself and his life plays out as a character in one of Shakespeares tragedies which I thought was brilliant.
I absolutely loved the conversation between John and Mond and read it a few times over. I thought it was a great philosophical take on God, society, and happiness. It was a quick read and I can understand why it’s regarded so highly but for me it just wasn’t a personal favorite.
