As a Molly Know Ostertag fan, this did not disappoint. It worked well as both a standalone while planting seeds for future editions in the series. The dad is great. The middle-school emotions and conflicts felt honest and real. While it's not the first piece of media to parallel the main story with the fantasy adventure of a roll-playing game, this used that tropes in fun, effective, and story-progressive ways.
