I Shouldn't Be Telling You This (But I'm Going to Anyway) by Chelsea Devantez

5.0

Conversational, aspirational, hilarious, and deep. It takes quite a writer to discuss heavy topics with depth and wit, and Devantez does just that.
It’s part comedy writer, how I got my break, part autopsy of a childhood, interwoven with all the things you like about her podcast. It’s like sitting down with a new best friend and learning all about them.

The structure is genius; each chapter is dedicated to a woman who influenced her life (good and bad). In an AMA on Instagram, Devantez said, “Women have just naturally been both my heroes and my monsters, the main characters in my life.”

This book had me googling and sleuthing to find out which veiled celeb references she was making, texting funny lines to my friends, searching Instagram for her wedding photos, and crying over her bridesmaid chapter and the power of friendships that carry us through our lives.

This book is beautiful. It’s wonderful to see someone value their journey and share it with others. I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This is brave, funny, and insightful.
