Black Crow, White Snow by Michael Livingston
2.0

Felt like it was going to be a fantasy take on Shackleton. But instead it seemed to be trying to make some weird statements about gender - perhaps, I don't know.
Maybe that gap between what I was expecting and what the author was going for was the reason I struggled to enjoy it. The writing wasn't terrible, but the story didn't interest me. And the gender reversal fell crude, and ultimately pointless.
