Really thought a lot about this book, I even took an entire week just to wrap up my mind about it and here's my conclusion:
Oh yeah, it's a good one.
I don't mind romance in my books, but I rarely read ones where romance is the main attraction in them. And if we are to be honest, romance is not Brando Sando's forte. Not to say he is terrible at it or anything, but I don't think no one has ever said: I read Elantris for the love story.
However, in Yumi, it was simply awesome how well-written the bond between Yumi and Painter was. It's predictable, and yet I became engrossed in it . The worldbuilding is used to supplement the love between the protagonists. The plot is important and it was fun to pick up the clues to understand the larger picture, but it knew when to fade into the background in order to let the relationship bloom. The magic systems were simple, but they were full of charm; this simplicity also made sure it didn't steal the spotlight for our leads. The climax had me gripping the book while I furiously turned one page after the other.
All in all, a wonderful book and definetely one of my Cosmere favorite. I know we won't have more stories with these characters, but I certainly hope Brandon will revisit Komashi in the future.
