A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris

3.0

This is a collection of short stories, all featuring Sookie Stackhouse. Each of the stories stands alone. I didn’t feel at all lost, despite never having read any of the Sookie Stackhouse series before. Relationships between characters were clearly explained. I found Sookie and her friends to be likeable and fun characters. This isn’t great literature but it was a fun read. Oh, and there’s just the right amount of sexual tension.

If you haven’t read any of the Sookie books, you’ll definitely find some spoilers herein. This was the first one I read or listened to, so I appreciated that Harris repeated certain basic information. I think a steady fan of this series would have been bored by that.

The book on CD is narrated by Johanna Parker, who does a fine job of capturing the southern charm of Sookie, the underlying menace of some of the situations, and the tender emotions of the final story.
