Zorrie by Laird Hunt
5.0

Zorrie is an absolutely beautifully-written novella about a fairly ordinary life of a woman in Indiana. As a Hoosier myself, it's clear how well the author knows the state and its people (it seems he grew up in the same area where the novel is set), but I believe anyone could relate to the characters in the book. The joy in this novel is primarily in the writing and descriptions of Zorrie's thoughts as the plot is somewhat limited by design, although a particular job she takes during the Great Depression is fascinating. I'm not familiar with the author's previous works, but I look forward to reading another one.
