Miasma by Jess Hyslop

5.0

If you enjoy young protagonists, lush worldbuilding and rich prose, but don't have the patience for long tomes, Miasma is the book for you!

At just 99 pages, it is a story about family, grief, trauma, love and acceptance. All these themes are explored wonderfully in a tightly-packed way that leaves little to be desired. I mean that. I can't think of anything else I would have preferred. The characters were compelling and fully fleshed, the plot had enough twists and turns to keep me engaged throughout, and the rich descriptions of this swamp dystopia were outstanding.

If you're looking for a book with brains, brawn and heart, here you have it.
