The Mortal Word by Genevieve Cogman

3.0

This 5th book of the series definitely read like a mystery - the main characters were all put together to solve a murder at a peace treaty convention. I would honestly say that this was probably my least favorite of the series so far, even though I really enjoy the mystery genre. I just felt like there was a LOT of dialogue and coincidence... a lot of things happen at the perfect time with not as effective explanation. There were also quite a few new members on the "investigative" team, whose perspectives aren't written from, and for me this caused a lot of confusion - they would split up and report findings that we don't really get to read about. Overall, the book was still very fun and the politics behind dragon-fae relationships was still very tense and interesting. I did enjoy the reveal at the end as well, even if you can kind of see it coming. Still very well written and enjoyable!
