Sci-fi and dystopian setting. An author who drew on her own lived experiences of totalitarian regime and cruelty capable between human beings. A determined heroine. There was a lot to chew on and some memorable imagery, but one of the later sentences in this novel summed it up as you could have said the book ‘turned out to be an insoluble mystery, and a meagre reward (for nearly 200 pages reading)’.
