As with Greenberg’s other graphic novels, the art is gorgeous, but The One Hundred Nights of Hero didn’t land for me compared with The Encyclopedia of Early Earth and Glasstown.
While the overall message about the importance of female friendship and sisterly bonds is good and important, the presentation of this message lacks subtlety and nuance and I found the stories-within-stories of wicked men and oppressed women to become repetitive after a while. (Minus the retelling of the "Twelve Dancing Princesses," which I quite enjoyed).
Now I just want to read Glasstown again.
3 stars.
