The number of time specific references felt like nostalgia bait. Sadie is such a deeply selfish unlikeable character that it made the book hard to read. Sam is also terrible.
Making casual of grooming and domestic violence is really disgusting.
Plus, the author seems to have stolen the idea for Solution from a boardgame (Train), so that is immediately disqualifying.
