Never Far Away by Michael Koryta

This is the kind of straightforward book where the best lines in it are from other things, often TV shows. They’re not stolen— they’re fully cited and sourced in the story, but it’s a fundamental weakness when a quote from The Wire or Friday Night Lights is better than any line that the writer has come up with.

As for the plot it’s a very straightforward action book. I wouldn’t even call this a thriller. It’s a book about a woman being hunted by the corporate equivalent of a mafia boss. There’s very little in the way of mystery or plot twists, they just hunt her down and then there's a showdown. It kinds of feels like the third act of a different, better book.
