I think any negative feelings I had about this book is a me thing, since apparently I only read litfic to remind myself that I’m not meant for litfic.
Otherwise, I enjoyed how someone unfamiliar with indigenous Hawaiian culture and language was not catered to; theres no glossary explaining the extensive use of Hawaiian words and phrases, for example. I thought this made the storytelling immersive and genuine.
