Queen's Shadow by E.K. Johnston
4.0

Something I didn’t expect: after reading this novel I actually wanted to rewatch episode 1-3. And I had sworn to myself: I’ve seen them once and that was enough. I see this as a huge Star Wars fan!!
But this novel gave a fresh perspective on Amidala, which I despised as a character in the movies. Suddenly she is a smart politician and awesome being, deeply rooted in a powerful network of women. Anyhow: gender is a category in which this novel seems not to be caught in.
Even though the book is sometimes a bit slow, which I liked because it left room for storytelling and character building, the plot is developing around it’s two main characters Padmé and Sabé. And it was great to read a science fiction book which is not plot but character driven.
