prodilosso 's review for:
The Brothers Karamazov
by Fyodor Dostoevsky
I was rather overwhelmed by this sprawling philosophical and psychological monster of a novel.
Not sure that I read it rigorously but will study it more.
One professorial YouTube that I watched flatly stated that if you are not knowledgeable with the entire Bible and works of Shakespeare that you miss most literary references.
I like following the arguments on theism.
I could not FOLLOW THE MONEY or the shifting love allegiances. So convoluted that you had to dig in hard to stay with it.
The brothers were incredibly vividly characterized and therefore we understand them as flawed human beings. Indeed, every character in the novel was subjected to detailed motive analysis.
Lots to take in!
Notice that I am taking credit for TWO books in the reading challenge. Ha ha ha.
