oofym 's review for:
The Double
by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Definitely my least favourite work I've read by Dostoyevsky. Alot of people complain about Dostoyevsky's writing being very obtuse, rambly and hard to follow, which I've never agreed with until I read "The Double"
The story is just so hard to follow, while also being incredibly repetitive. Practically nothing happens, meanwhile so many sentences are repeated in what feels like an attempt to stretch out the length. I'm pretty sure this was only the 2nd novel Dostoyevsky wrote, so it makes sense that it's nowhere as defined as his later works, but oh boy could this have used some editing.
I'm pretty sure the overall idea is that the main character is suffering from some sort of psychosis or paranoid schizophrenia, but surprisinging that doesn't make the book any less dull.
I'm really disappointed, normally I love Fyodor's stories (Yes we're on a first name basis 😗), shockingly though, The Double has almost no redeeming qualities in my eyes.
