“Performing is joy. I mean, it’s also fear and panic and wanting to throw up, but once you’re out there and you’re doing it, it is just joy.”
This book spoke to me on so many levels. I have been there, performing and experiencing all the things Robin feels as he dips his toes into the world of drag. If I could relive my burlesque days all over again, I would ten times over and then some.
The book is littered with amazing, profound and incredible quotes that make excellent points about drag as an art and a business. It also has a lot of Drag Race references that I thought I’d tire of, but I just loved.
Boy Queen embraces being queer and screams it from the mother-tucking rooftops. This was a celebration of being gay, drag and friendship.
My only question, Mr Lester, is when can we expect book 2?
