Anyone's Ghost by August Thompson

dark emotional sad medium-paced

4.5

This was really well written.

A “romance” that I enjoyed reading.

TBH, I didn’t find anything mind blowing about the plot or situationship going on. I think Thompson is a very talented writer and this is an excellent debut that showcases his ability to create dynamic characters, a broken timeline plot, and reflective prose. I will absolutely be reading his next novel.

I think I was a ~little~ underwhelmed with the ending? It felt a little unresolved to me - a bit rushed maybe? I feel like there was SO MUCH BUILD UP - and it was great! not fluffy at all! - and the ending was just not as exciting as I’d hoped lol. BUT I also think that may have been an intentional choice for Theron’s character.

Yet, there is a shitload of potential here for Thompson as a writer. I really loved the experience of reading this, and I would absolutely recommend to everyone.

It was very atmospheric like IN THE DREAM HOUSE while also being sentimental and moody like I LOVE YOU SO MUCH ITS KILLING US BOTH. clearly a very dark book but it holds lots of emotion.

I’m babbling. You should read this.
