A review by pastelwriter
Camp Slaughter by Sergio Gomez

Did not finish book. Stopped at 24%.
I might try to come back to this…but I may not.

I had several issues with this:

1. There’s too many characters we’re following
1.a. I don’t mind following the killer if that’s the only pov, but revealing who the killer is before the reader is even 1/4 of the way through the book is criminal 😭

2. One of the characters makes a super acephobic comment—something along the lines of comparing someone who hasn’t expressed an interest in romantic relationships an “alien”—and it just really got under my skin
2.a. I can usually handle this kind of thing. There’s plenty of acephobia found in typical romance novel rhetoric (this is the primary genre I read) but this one had it so blatantly I could not stomach it

3. Something doesn’t sit right with me about the killer being
the son of an immigrant. (He might have been an immigrant too? The details are fuzzy). Like I get that the author is Latino…but the super stereotypical portrayal of the killer and his father was too much for me 😭

3.a. The killer was just so cringe in general tho and over the top. Definitely not my vibe

All in all, the vibes were so off, y’all.
