Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space by Amanda Leduc

5.0

I listened to this on Audible, as I often like to do with non-fiction books. I really enjoyed listening to this, and found it an incredibly educational and enlightening read. Amanda touches on her own experiences having grown up with cerebral palsy, and what that was like for her as a child. Additionally, in an early chapter, Amanda explores the history of disability - looking at the ways in which disability has been used to effectively other and persecute people, which I found particularly fascinating and disheartening. She also does deep-dives into some of the well-known fairtytales of our childhoods, particularly Beauty & the Beast and Cinderella, as well as some lesser known others.

All in all, there is a wide breadth of topics covered in this book and above all else, it's a fantastic personal and educational read.
